Start with your briefs
A brief is a note unicorn or your agent leaves in your inbox. The most common one is the daily digest. Your agent checks the inbox at the start of a session, and marks briefs as read once it has shown them to you.The daily digest
Once a day, at or after 07:00 in your timezone, unicorn writes a digest when something happened. If nothing did, it writes nothing. The digest has up to three sections:
unicorn writes the digest with no AI model. It is a plain report of what its sources showed. If you want it summarised or prioritised, ask your agent.
Change the timezone under Timezone on the settings page. The digest follows the new zone from the next day.
See what changed
Ask what changed since a time you name, a course, or a kind of change.changes_since. Every change has a position number. Your agent remembers the last one it read and asks only for newer changes next time, so nothing is shown twice and nothing is missed. If it has no position yet, it starts with the latest 20. The eight kinds of change are listed in the reference.
See a course across systems
course joins what Ed, Moodle, Canvas and Gmail know about one course and sorts it into buckets, one per assignment plus a general one. The reference lists them.
Two things can come back that are worth knowing:
- More than one match. If the same code exists in two terms, unicorn shows both and asks you which one. It does not guess.
- Unplaced items. Items it could not place are marked unlabeled. Your agent can file them, or the triage playbook does it on a schedule. See Playbooks.
life.
Check upcoming deadlines
upcoming looks 14 days ahead unless you ask for more, up to 180. It leaves out overdue items unless you ask. When you do, it goes back 90 days.
Search
search_items searches the titles and text of everything unicorn holds. You can narrow it by kind of item, course or date.
Plans that follow you
A plan is a checklist your agent saves in unicorn. Because it lives in unicorn rather than in one chat, you can start it in Claude Code and tick it off on your phone.2026-W39, and an assignment plan, tied to one item. Plans use task syntax, with - [ ] and - [x]. In a client that shows widgets, ticking an item in the plan card saves it for every device.
Correct unicorn with remember
When something unicorn files is wrong for you, tell your agent once and it saves the note for good.- Save only rules that last. A one-off fact belongs in the chat.
- A repeated note is ignored.
- When the notes are full, the oldest drop off to make room.
- Your agent cannot delete a note. To remove one you would need the admin connection.
Check on unicorn itself
status shows each source, when it last synced, its last error and whether the scheduler is running. If a source shows an error, see Troubleshooting.
